The Cottage
Located in Currency Creek on South Australia’s stunning Fleurieu Peninsula, the cottage at Blue Door Farm is a gorgeous straw bale cottage. Comfortable, unique and full of rustic charm it’s an ideal country stay. Guests will experience the comfort of this cozy strawbale cottage in one of the most picturesque regions in the state.
Blue Door Farm is ideally situated only a few minutes drive to the gorgeous seaside towns of Middleton, Port Elliot and the historic, river port town of Goolwa.
Currency Creek is surrounded by pristine farming country to the north, the mighty Murray’s expansive lower lakes to the east, the stunning south coast to the south, picturesque natural wonders to the west and world renowned wine regions in all directions!
With sustainability at its core, Blue Door Farm is entirely off grid with independent power, water and waste processing on site. Fruit and vegetables are grown organically and in abundance. Native wildlife abounds the property with regular visits from grazing Kangaroos, possums, even the occasional wombat and echidna. An amazing array of birdlife also frequent the property. Guests will have an opportunity to experience sustainable, off grid living in comfort.
The cottage is a one bedroom, self contained cottage featuring a luxurious queen sized bed in the main room and a children’s bed and trundle available in the additional rear bedroom. Tastefully decorated with an eclectic mix of new, recycled and reclaimed furniture and furnishings. Bedding is high quality, 100% cotton as are the towels provided. Suitable for up to 2 adults and 2 children, the cottage also includes private bathroom, toilet and kitchen. There is a small pot belly fire heater with supplied firewood to keep you warm on those crisp winter nights.
Guests are supplied with breakfast provisions including fresh, Blue Door Farm eggs, locally sourced bacon, bread, milk and condiments. Fresh seasonal produce from the garden and orchard is also supplied when available (season depending).
Guests are also greeted with a bottle of local wine. (Choice between red or white)
The kitchen is equipped with gas cook tops and microwave. There is a compact, under counter fridge and freezer as well as a kettle and toaster. The cupboards contain everything needed for basic meal preparation and serving. Outdoor cooking is also an option with a hooded gas BBQ under the veranda.
The bathroom contains a shower, basin and professionally designed Nature Loo composting toilet system. These systems are completely odor free and a pleasure to use.
